About the category

Draught-powered tools for every stage of the season

Mealie Brand animal-drawn implements are designed to be pulled by donkeys, cows or oxen. Each one is matched to a draught team — from the 25.9 kg MM43 cultivator for two donkeys to the 126 kg two-furrow P23 plough for four to six oxen — so you can choose equipment your animals can comfortably work with.

The range covers the full cropping cycle on draught-powered farms: breaking and turning the soil, harrowing a clean seedbed, forming ridges, planting in rows and keeping weeds down between the rows.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Answers based on Mealie Brand's published specifications.

Which plough is best if I only have donkeys?

The MB Maun Plough is designed for donkeys: single furrow, 30 kg, drawn by 4 donkeys or 2 cows. The MB200 and MB201 can also be drawn by 4 donkeys or 2 oxen.

Which plough should I use on heavy soil?

The MB IS12 Plough is built for heavier soils. It weighs 47 kg and needs 4–6 oxen. For harrowing heavier soils and clay afterwards, use the Zig-Zag Harrow.

What is the difference between the MB200 and the MB201?

Both are single-furrow ploughs drawn by 4 donkeys or 2 oxen. The MB201 comes without a drawbar and weighs 34 kg; the MB200 weighs 35 kg and can take a ripper attachment for conservation agriculture.

What crops can the Mealie Brand Planter sow?

Maize, beans, soya beans and small grains such as sorghum, millet and rapoko. It is a single-row planter on the Pitman drive system and comes with two seed plates.

Can a cultivator also make ridges?

Yes. The MB221 Cultivator (2-tyne, 2-hiller with sweep) can be used for ridging. For dedicated ridging of tobacco, potatoes and similar crops, use the High Wing Ridger.

Can I join zig-zag harrows together?

Yes. Up to three Zig-Zag Harrows can be joined. Each covers a 1 m swath per pass.
